Interview with a Plant Parent: Ally
1. Tell us a little about yourself!
Hello! My name is Ally and I live in Newcastle, Australia. Day to day I work an office job, I have two fur kids and about 50 indoor plants.
2. What got you into the plant hobby?
I started out with cactus. I have a huge cactus collection which are all in my garden outside. About a year pre-COVID, I was living with my mum temporarily to save money to buy my house and I decided to buy a FLF. Most of my stuff was in storage and I wanted my space to look nice. I decided I didn’t actually like them very much, they were just a super hyped plant at the time, so I bought a ruby Ficus as my first big plant and it just went from there!
3. What is your most favourite indoor plant you have at the moment?
My favourite plant at the moment… it’s a toss-up between my Micans and Brasil. I think I have 6 or 7 of each, making up a big chunk of my collection!
4. What is the next indoor plant in your wishlist?
My wish list plant had got to be a Philodendron cream splash! I am absolutely hanging out to find one that won’t cost me a fortune.
5. Share with us one or more of your best plant care tips.
I think my best planty tips are to just leave your plants alone, let them do their thing. They will tell you when they are thirsty! Don’t overthink it, sometimes a yellow leaf is just an old leaf, don’t think that it’s the worst pest possible and you need to change your soil and stress your plant out even more. I also highly recommend using Foliole Oleisea in your watering regime, that stuff is ah-maaaazing.
